Wildfire Cigar Company: Dead Drift Review

dead drift review dead drift

Jeremy Mcdonald founded Wildfire Cigar Company back in 2014, with the limited one time release of the Single, followed by the Revivalist. Since then he as been grinding away and kicking open doors in the cigar industry. I recently had a chance to speak to him at the annual PCA Convention this year in New Orleans, and the conversation did not disappoint. We talked about the current state of the company and a blue print for the brand moving forward. There is a lot to look forward to and the future is bright for Jeremy and Wildfire Cigar Company. So be excited, be very excited, and get out there and support this brand!

Before leaving for New Orleans I had ordered the Dead Drift cigar in hopes of them arriving in time for the trip. Epic fail, thanks to the good ole United States Postal Service. They didn’t make it in time but they where waiting on me with open arms when I got home, screaming smoke me. The suspense was killing me like that of being out there fishing, waiting on a fish to grab your bait. This was a catch I was not willing to let slip away. It was finally in my hands ready to smoke and ready to review for you all. Now with that being said  lets get to the details of the cigar, followed by a short and to the point review:

Cigar Blend Info

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano

Binder: Sumatra

Filler: Corojo 98 / Criollo

Vitola: 6 X 50 Toro

Upon opening this cigar your instantly met with the smell of sweet tobacco and bread radiating from the foot of this cigar. The Dead Drift had an effortless draw with a lot of smoke out put, it literally smoked like a train. The cigar to me smoked more medium them medium-full profile as some has stated online. Upon the initial lite up you’re met with pepper/spice, and the bread you smelt before light up, radiates throughout the whole cigar. From beginning to end the cigar keeps consistent with the flavor profile. I didn’t really notice new flavors appear while transitioning from beginning to end. While smoking this cigar what I did notice was a ramp up of the flavors, to me they become more prominent and not as faded behind the flavor of smoke as the first quarter of the cigar presented.

I think I know what Jeremy was trying to accomplish with this cigar, a perfect camping, fishing, outdoor sitting around the fire type of smoke.  What do you mean by this you ask? Well I mean, its not complex, its simple, but simply great, its a great catch per say. The Dead Drift is a cigar you can smoke and relax without over thinking the flavor profile. Its creamy, its smokey, its waking up while camping and smelling your dad up cooking on open fire. Its nostalgic to me, it brings back memories of camping with my dad and its perfect way to relax doing what you love. Once again I will say it, its not complex, its simple, simply a great smoke and a great catch.

So run and do not walk to your nearest brick and mortar fishing hole, and catch the Dead Drift today.

This cigar is a limited production, though the exact number of boxes is still unknown, its sage to say do don”t the Dead Drift swim away.
