Brand Spotlight: Natura Cigars
Natura Cigars is a stand out in the industry because they approach things differently then any other company. They’re currently growing their tobacco at Altura Farm in Constanza, Dominican Republic, sitting over 4,500 feet above sea level. This location offers a cold and rainy mountain climate, which Natura claims contributes to the development of more natural sugars, aroma, oils, and flavor in the tobacco leaves.
They also claim to grow and produce their own wrapper, binder, and filler. The tobacco used stays on the plant longer, cures for months, and ferments for up to a year and a half. This suggests a brand built on patience and meticulous process.
The blends that grab my attention the most are Altura First Harvest and Petit Altura. Natura describes First Harvest as a pure single-farm cigar, exuding notes of herbal freshness, sweet spice, and aged wood. Petit Altura, is packed with fruity and herbal notes, roasted nuts, umami richness, and aged wood. I had the opportunity to sample Petit Altura at PCA, and it left me utterly impressed. Contrary to my previous opinions about Petite cigars, this particular blend provided an extraordinary 10 minutes of unparalleled cigar enjoyment. This cigar packs a powerful punch of flavor into a small package, and is a perfect choice for people having limited smoke time.
Natura Cigars is a brand that I believe is worth keeping an eye on. If you appreciate cigars with a compelling story, a strong sense of place, and a unique twist on the traditional, Natura Cigars is a company you should definitely know about and explore.
