Jim Janovich and Barry Ulsh Launch Black Rock Cigar Co. with The Colliery Series
May 28, 2026 (Etters, Pa.) — Jim Janovich and Barry Ulsh have launched Black Rock Cigar
Co., a new premium cigar company based in Etters, Pennsylvania. The company is debuting
with The Colliery Series, a two-line portfolio inspired by Pennsylvania coal mining heritage and
created as a tribute to loved ones who have passed away.
The Colliery Series consists of The Williamstown and The Vesta No. 4. The Williamstown is a
medium-bodied maduro that uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, an Indonesian binder, and a
filler blend of three Nicaraguan tobaccos.
The Vesta No. 4 uses an Ecuadorian
Connecticut wrapper, a Condega binder, and HVA and Condega filler tobacco.
Both lines are offered in two vitolas: a 5 x 50 robusto and a 6 x 52 toro. The robusto has an
MSRP of $11 per cigar, while the toro is priced at $11.50 per cigar, and both are packaged in
20-count boxes.
The company says the boxes were designed to look like wooden crates
covered in coal dust, extending the brand’s coal-country inspiration into the packaging
presentation.
The cigars are blended and rolled at Tabacalera Hernandez in Estelí, Nicaragua, which
describes itself as a vertically integrated premium cigar factory in the heart of Estelí. The Colliery Series is the foundation of the Black Rock Cigar Co. portfolio and
reflects the brand’s tagline, Deep-rooted, Slow-burning Excellence. “Black Rock Cigar Co. was built to honor where we come from and the people who helped
shape us,” said Jim Janovich and Barry Ulsh.
“The Colliery Series is personal to us. It is rooted
in Pennsylvania coal mining heritage, and each cigar reflects remembrance, pride, and the
lasting bonds that inspired this brand.”
Black Rock Cigar Co. is available through retail partners and cigar lounges in
Pennsylvania. The company also states it plans to expand distribution outside the state over time.
