Brand Spotlight: El Mago Cigars
Today we chose El Mago Cigars as our brand spotlight. They are one of those brands that grabbed my attention because there is real meaning behind it, its familiar, its family.
Created by Nick Fusco to honor his grandparents, Maria and Gonzalo Torre, after they passed in the Champlain Towers South collapse in Surfside. The El Mago name came from combining came from the first two letters of each of their names. The company is built to honor and keep their legacy alive.
El Mago does not feel forced, it feels personal, it feels real. You can tell this is more than just another cigar brand trying to take up shelf space. There is family behind it, tradition behind it, and a real reason it exists.
Nick mentioned how cigars were a big part of the time he spent with his grandfather, and that is a big part of why this brand even came to life. That kind of story hits home, because a lot of us know cigars are not just about the smoke. They are about the moments, the people, and the memories that come with them.
El Mago truly distinguishes itself to me because it possesses a genuine heart and a captivating story. The cigar market saturated with brands vying for attention, El Mago stands out as a brand that genuinely holds significance.
El Mago’s Lineup
What I appreciate about El Mago is that they don’t rely solely on one cigar. They have a solid lineup with some variety in it, and that gives smokers a few different lanes to pick from. Some of the lineup includes El Cubano, Triunfante, Pepe, Místico, The Miami Maduro, Lotus, Renegade, Solstice, and Disco.
A few of these cigars stand out immediately. El Cubano is a 6×52 Toro with a Connecticut wrapper, Honduran binder, and Estelí filler, promising a smooth and classic smoke. Pepe, a medium-strong box-pressed Toro offering a robust flavor. Místico features a Cameroon wrapper and tobacco from various countries and regions, resulting in a medium-bodied profile. Renegade is rolled with a San Andrés Maduro wrapper, while The Miami Maduro is said to have notes of chocolate, coffee, and caramel.
To me, that is what makes the line interesting. There is enough range here for different smokers, but it still feels like one brand with one identity. That is always a good sign.
